Director of Academic Operations

The Director of Academic Operations is a key leadership role within the Graduate School of Social Work, overseeing and coordinating the administrative and operational functions that support the school's academic mission. This position ensures the efficient delivery of educational programs, maintains academic quality standards, and facilitates collaboration between faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders. This role involves collaborating with GSSWSR faculty and staff to assist the Dean with planning, implementing and evaluating the MSS program and curriculum.
Responsibilities:
Academic Program Management (30%)
- Oversee course scheduling, classroom assignments, and hiring of interim/adjunct faculty; Assist Dean with course planning and faculty staffing.
- Coordinate program reviews, accreditation processes, and compliance requirements, including verification of degrees, audit of transcripts, and confirming satisfactory academic progress of all students.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure academic quality and consistency.
- Monitor academic performance metrics and prepare outcome assessment reports.
- Effectively use Bionic/Workday to monitor student status and ensure accuracy of student records, to track and matriculate students, to track student leaves and withdrawals, and run queries about student and program outcomes.
Administrative Leadership (30%).
- Develop and oversee operational budgets for academic programs.
- Implement systems and processes to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
- Acts as liaison, with the Dean, to College’s administrative services offices.
- Prepares with Dean the annual statistical survey from the Council on Social Work Education, including collaboration with Institutional Research as needed.
- Supports the Dean in preparation of self-study materials in supports of maintaining CSWE accreditation.
- Participate in Dean’s team meetings communication with faculty and students.
Administrative Communications (30%)
- Communicate any/all changes in student status to relevant offices.
- Participate on GSSWSR internal communications team to coordinate all student outreach.
- Complete the Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) report and provide to financial aid office.
- Communicate all grading policies to faculty, including procedures and forms.
- Annual update of GSSWSR Handbook and Catalog.
Other Duties as Assigned (10%)
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in social work or higher education administration preferred.
Skills:
- Experience working with student records.
- High level of proficiency in data base management and familiarity with learning management systems.
- Knowledge of academic policies, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Digital proficiency within an enterprise system such as Bionic or Workday.
- Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, capacity to multi-task, and to collaborate with students, faculty and staff.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
