Academic Advisor and Writing Support
91³Ô¹ÏÍø has an opening for an Academic Advisor and Writing Support.
This role is part of the student and career services team at the Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research. This role will focus on advising students about their academic requirements, course selections and progression through the MSS program. In addition, this role will be part of a team that provides academic coaching, writing support, and student activities and programming.
Key Responsibilities:
Academic Advising (50%)
- Advise graduate students on academic requirements, course selection, and degree progression
- Interpret and explain academic policies, procedures, and requirements
- Monitor student academic progress and provide intervention strategies when necessary
- Collaborate with faculty to address student academic concerns and support student success
- Facilitate orientation programs and academic workshops for incoming and continuing students
- Participate in recruitment activities and represent the program at information sessions
- Support students facing academic challenges through appropriate referrals and resources
- Maintain accurate student records and documentation
Student Activities Involvement (20%)
- Serve as advisor to graduate student organizations and professional development groups
- Coordinate professional networking opportunities and career development activities
- Identify and promote leadership development opportunities for graduate students
- Assist with organization of student recognition events and graduation celebrations
- Participate in coordination of the First-Year-Experience program (CONNECT program)
Writing Support (20%)
- Provide guidance on writing expectations at the graduate level
- Conduct workshops on APA formatting, citation methods, and academic integrity
- Review student drafts of academic papers and provide constructive feedback
- Support students and alumni with resume development
Other Duties as Assigned (10%)
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree required. Master's degree preferred preferably in Social Work, Counseling, Higher Education Administration, or a related field.
- 2+years of experience in academic advising, student affairs, or related field, preferably at the graduate level.
Skills:
- Knowledge of graduate education systems and social work curriculum.
- Strong oral and written communication.
- Demonstrated strengths-based approach to inclusive education.
- Experience with learning management systems, such as Moodle.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
